Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda is a renowned Nigerian engineer and politician, recently appointed as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation by President Bola Tinubu. With a background in energy and technology, Yilwatda has worked on numerous impactful projects both locally and globally. 

His new role reflects his dedication to social welfare and his commitment to addressing poverty and humanitarian challenges in Nigeria. Born on August 8, 1968, in Dungung, Kanke LG, Yilwatda’s academic journey began at LGED Primary School and led to a PhD in Digital Systems Engineering.

Early Life and Education

Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda was born on August 8, 1968 in Dungung, Kanke LG to the family of a clergy, Late Rev and Mrs Toma Yilwatda.

He began his educational journey by passing the First School Leaving Certificate at LGED Primary School, Dungung in 1981 and GCE (O/Level) in 1986 from Boys’ Secondary School, Gindiri. 

Yilwatda earned his First Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering from Federal University Agriculture, Makurdi in 1992 and went on to complete his Master of Engineering and PhD from ATBU Bauchi and University of Nigeria, Nsukka, specializing in Digital systems engineering.

Career

Yilwatda was the All Progressives Congress Plateau governorship candidate in the 2023 election. He has been involved in various projects such as the PAWA 774 initiative for clean, eco-friendly electricity and training engineers with Tech-Ville USA.

He also served as a Commissioner with Independent National Electoral Commission and was a Resident Electoral Commissioner in Benue State. Additionally, Yilwatda has received numerous awards and accolades in the field of ICT and electronic engineering.

Professional Achievements

Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda was the lead consultant for a UNICEF project covering several states in Nigeria for the installation of alternative energy sources for cold chain systems. 

He also represented the Federal Government on energy research delegations to the USA and Canada. Yilwatda was involved in the Cuban Government/ECN programme promoting energy efficiency in residential and public sectors.

Personal Life

Yilwatda is a member of COCIN church and is married to Dr. Martina Yilwatda.
