Collins Obinna Chibuezu was (born May 9, 1995), in northern Virginia to Nigerian parents and grew up in Woodbridge, Virginia. His stage name originated from variations in the pronunciation of his surname, Chibueze, which translates to “God is king” in Igbo.

During his childhood, Shaboozey found inspiration from watching music videos on 106 & Park and his experiences at a boarding school in Nigeria during junior high. In 2014, he established V Picture Films, his own production company.

Regarding his education, Shaboozey’s parents enrolled him in a boarding school in Nigeria during his junior high years. While there, he deepened his understanding of his cultural roots and honed his sense of rhythm. After completing his time at the boarding school in Nigeria, he returned to the United States. Shaboozey’s musical journey began at a boarding school in Nigeria, where he developed a keen interest in music. Upon returning to the U.S., he began creating music inspired by various artists, including Roger Waters, Fela Kuti, the Clipse, Led Zeppelin, and the Backstreet Boys.

In 2014, Shaboozey debuted with the release of his first single, “Jeff Gordon.” His talent caught the attention of Republic Records in 2017, following the success of singles like “Starfoxx” and “Robert Plant.” This led to the release of his debut studio album, Lady Wrangler, the following year.

Shaboozey’s breakthrough came in 2018 when he contributed to the soundtrack of Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse with his track “Start a Riot,” featuring Duckwrth. The song garnered over 85 million streams on Spotify.

Following his success, Shaboozey released his second studio album, Cowboys Live Forever, Outlaws Never Die, in October 2022 through Empire. His third studio album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, is set for release on May 31, 2024, accompanied by headlining shows in the U.S. and an opening slot for Jessie Murph on tour.
