Cybercrime Trial of Naira Marley Postponed

Fashola is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the purported cybercrime; charges were filed on May 14, 2019.

When he was arraigned before Justice Nicholas Oweibo on May 20, 2019, the singer famed for the song “Am I a Yahoo Boy,” pleaded not guilty and was granted bail.

Later, when Oweibo was moved out of the Lagos division, the matter was given to Justice Isaac Dipeolu.

Justice Dipeolu was apprised of the pending fiat awaiting clearance by both prosecution and defence lawyers during the most recent hearing on March 6.

Though the matter was postponed until May 30 for an update, the edict was still pending approval at the most recent hearing. The trial will resume on an undetermined date.

The EFCC claims Fashola conspired to cheat people using various ATM cards between November 26, 2018, and December 11, 2018, as well as on May 10, 2019.

The commission further charges him with breaking the Cyber Crime (Prohibition) Prevention Act, 2015, for having fake credit cards with the intention of defrauding.
