Early Life And Education
JID, born Destin Choice Route on October 31, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia, was the youngest of seven children to Carl Louis Route Jr. and Kathy Jean Route. His grandmother nicknamed him JID due to his energetic and “jittery” behavior.
Growing up, he was influenced by soul and funk music, later discovering 1990s New York hip-hop and artists like Jay-Z, Nas, and Mobb Deep. He attended Stephenson High School, playing football until a hip injury during his senior year.
