Early Life And Education
Zaytoven’s early life was deeply rooted in music and faith. His father, a preacher and army employee, exposed him to church bands, where he and his three siblings learned to play instruments. His affinity for the piano and organ grew, and he later discovered rap in middle school.
During high school, he honed his production skills in his free time, even performing at football games. A chance encounter with JT the Bigga Figga at a game led to unlimited studio access, where Zaytoven refined his craft, laying the groundwork for his future success in Atlanta’s music scene.
Career
Zaytoven dedicated himself to honing his craft, spending every day at JT the Bigga Figga’s studio, creating beats and learning equipment operation. He sold beats to JT and collaborated with prominent Bay Area artists like Messy Marv and E-40 while still in high school.
During his senior year, his family relocated to Atlanta, but Zaytoven chose to stay in San Francisco, finish school, and continue producing. He recognized the need for his own studio and began purchasing equipment with his barber job earnings, shipping it to his parents’ Atlanta home, where he eventually set up shop. To support his studio, he enrolled in barber college and worked as a barber.
A classmate introduced him to Gucci Mane, and they began working together daily, creating music and selling mixtapes from their car trunks. Their big break came in 2005 with “Icy,” featuring Young Jeezy and Boo, followed by the hit song “Papers” with Usher in 2010, solidifying Zaytoven’s career as a renowned producer.
Zaytoven’s work on Usher’s album earned him a Grammy in 2011, boosting his reputation in hip-hop. He collaborated with various artists, shaping careers and producing hits like Migos’ “Versace”. He worked on projects with Future, Gucci Mane, 21 Savage, and others, releasing two independent projects in 2017.
In 2018, he announced his debut album Trap Holizay and a collaborative album with Lecrae. Zaytoven also made his acting debut in the Birds of a Feather films alongside Gucci Mane.
