Early Life And Education
Dave East, born in NYC, grew up between East Harlem with his mom and Ravenswood with his aunt. He is of Bajan and Louisiana Creole descent.
Dave East was into sports at Springbrook High School near Washington, D.C., where he played AAU basketball with future NBA stars like Ty Lawson and Greivis Vasquez. He also bonded with Kevin Durant, now a Phoenix Suns all-star.
Career
In 2010, Dave East released his first mixtape, Change of Plans, which gained some local recognition. He went on to release more mixtapes like Insomnia, American Greed, Don’t Sleep, and No Regrets, showing his dedication to music. In 2013, East sold drugs intermittently in Harlem to support his music career, releasing his sixth mixtape, Gemini, in April of that year.
