Born on February 10, 1981, in Pretoria as the daughter of a retired teacher and a medical doctor, Benedict has two siblings, Nkoni and Abel Benedict.
She completed her education at Pretoria Technikon, now known as Tshwane University of Technology, where she discovered her passion for acting.
After graduating from New York’s Michael Howard Studios in 2007, Benedict spent a lot of time in libraries as a college student.
