Early Life And Education

Nkiruka ‘Kiki’ Omeili was raised in Lagos as the second child among four siblings to Charles and Maureen Omeili. Hailing from Nimo in Anambra State, she has an Igbo background. 

Her father, Charles, worked as a banker at First Bank Nigeria, retiring as a general manager, while her mother, Maureen, held the position of Controller of Prisons in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. 

Omeili discovered her passion for acting early on, participating in stage plays throughout her primary and secondary school education, a passion she carried into university. 

During her time at the University of Lagos, she was an active member of the drama club, engaging in various productions and drama competitions. In 2006, she earned a Medical degree from the College of Medicine at the University of Lagos.

Career

Following her successful audition in 2011, Nkiruka Omeili scored the role of Debbie in the television series ‘Behind the Smile’. 

The following year, she collaborated with director Tunde Olaoye from the same show to make her debut in the feature film ‘Married but Living Single’, acting alongside stars like Funke Akindele, Joseph Benjamin, Femi Brainard, and Joke Silva.

Omeili delved further into the entertainment industry with appearances in various TV series including ‘The Valley Between’, ‘NESREA Watch’, ‘Lekki Wives’, and ‘Gidi Culture’.

Beyond acting, Omeili stood out as the host of the dance reality TV show ‘Dance 234’ in 2011, a production by Koga Entertainment. Excitingly, in August 2013, news broke that ‘Lekki Wives’ would see a second season, with Omeili’s contract extended for her role as Lovette. 

In early 2016, Omeili wowed audiences with her performance as Joke in the Nigerian blockbuster ‘Couple of Days’, earning critical acclaim. 

Furthermore, in May 2016, ‘Iterum’, a short film directed by Stanlee Ohikhuare and featuring Omeili and Paul Utomi, made its premiere at the esteemed 69th Annual Cannes Film Festival.

Kiki Omeili ventured into movie production with her first short film, “Unprotected,” which was released on May 31, 2016. 

Drawing inspiration from her experiences as a medical student, the film centers on real events and features Omeili in a lead role, alongside a talented cast including Eric Didie, Bimbo Ademoye, Blessing Ambrose, and Nathan Kingsley.

Taking a step further in her filmmaking journey, Omeili commenced production on her debut full-length feature film, “Run,” in June 2018. 

The movie, directed by Uche Chukwu, premiered in cinemas on August 23, 2019, starring Owen Gee, Rotimi Salami, Kelechi Udegbe, and Greg Ojefua. 

“Run” not only garnered attention locally but also earned accolades internationally, being showcased at prestigious film festivals such as the Silicon Valley International Film Festival, Slum International Film Festival, and receiving an award at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival.

In an exciting development, Omeili joined the cast of MTV Shuga in February 2023, marking a new chapter in her acting career.

Personal Life

In her personal life, Kiki Omeili has always been passionate about stage performances and debates since her secondary school days. Despite choosing to pursue Medicine in university, her love for the arts never waned. 

After completing her medical studies, she realized her true calling lay in acting, leading her to follow her passion into the world of entertainment, where she has since carved out a successful career for herself.
