Born on October 20, 1988, in Harlem, NYC, Darold Durard Brown grew up in Hamilton Heights with Trinidadian roots. His father, Darold Ferguson, ran a boutique that catered to music artists, influencing Ferg’s early interest in clothing design.
Following his father’s passing, Ferg started his clothing and jewelry brands. In 2005, he launched “Devoni Clothing” and designed exclusive belts worn by celebrities like Chris Brown and Swizz Beatz.
Career
In 2009, Ferg transitioned from painting and fashion design to developing an aggressive hip-hop style known as trap. He explained that “trapping means hustling” and his dedication to perfection earned him the nickname “Trap Lord”. A$AP Rocky, a friend since high school, pushed Ferg to pursue rapping and they later joined ASAP Mob. Their collaborations include songs like “Get High” and “Ghetto Symphony”.
Ferg made a splash with his debut single “Work” released in August 2012, gaining over 2 million views for its music video. His album “Trap Lord” was announced in January 2013, reflecting on his life experiences and aspirations.
