Yamikani Janet Banda, professionally known as Lady Zamar, was born in Tembisa Township, East Rand, Gauteng, on June 19, 1995 to loving parents who nurtured her passion for music from a young age. Her family later relocated to Mamelodi, Pretoria, Gauteng, where she spent her formative years.
Career
Lady Zamar’s music journey began in 2011 when she met Junior Taurus, and their collaborative debut album, Cotton Candy, was released on October 14, 2015. The album spawned three singles and earned two nominations at the 22nd South African Music Awards.
Lady Zamar then embarked on a solo career, releasing her debut album, King Zamar, in March 2017. The album achieved immense success, earning gold certification in February 2018 and double platinum certification in June 2019.
Her solo career was marked by notable achievements, including winning the Song of the Year Award at the DStv Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards in 2017 and Best Dance Album at the 24th South African Music Awards. She headlined the Vivo Nation Festival in March 2018 and performed at a women’s concert on National Women’s Day in August 2018.
