Early Life And Education
Kimetrius Christopher Foose was born in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on August 4, 1998, and had his first taste of freestyling at the young age of three. It was his father, the renowned hip hop artist Michael Burton Jr. (formerly Dark Skies, now BurntMan), and his mother Shelby Foose who first introduced him to the world of music. Foose’s stage name, Lil Skies, pays homage to his father’s own moniker. The family later relocated to Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, during his third grade year. Unfortunately, tragedy struck when Foose was just 11 years old, as his father suffered severe injuries in a chemical explosion at the Rust-Oleum plant near Williamsport, Maryland.
Career
Skies used to sell marijuana and work odd jobs to pay for studio time before focusing on his rap career. He collaborated with his dad on music projects like “Birth of Skies Vol. 1” and “Father-Son Talk.” Skies graduated from high school, briefly attended college, and drew inspiration from artists like Lil Wayne and Eminem. He opened for Fetty Wap in 2016 and released his first mixtape, “Alone,” in 2017. Other songs he released included “Red Roses,” “Off The Goop,” “Rude,” and “Signs of Jealousy.”
In March 2019, Lil Skies released his album “Shelby” dedicated to his mother, alongside the music video for the single “I”. He surprised his mother by naming the album after her in a documentary on his YouTube channel. On May 21, 2019, he released a video for the song “Breathe” from “Shelby”.
Lil Skies released his second album “Unbothered” in 2021, featuring singles like “Havin My Way” with Lil Durk. He also dropped standalone singles like “Fidget” and “Red & Yellow” from the “Road to Fast 9” mixtape. After “Unbothered”, Lil Skies released singles such as “Play This At My Funeral” and “Rage!”.
In February 2023, Lil Skies released his final album with Atlantic Records, “Make A Toast,” in February 2023. He then left the label and released singles as an independent artist. He was featured on Lyrical Lemonade’s album, and released his own mixtape, “Out Ur Body Music,” in March 2024.
Personal Life
Lil Skies welcomed a baby boy with his partner Jacey Fugate in July 2019. He has since made a conscious effort to steer clear of drugs, having witnessed the destructive effects it had on his former friends.
Unfortunately, on May 20, 2024, Lil Skies found himself in trouble when he was arrested for allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run incident with another vehicle. Reports indicate that he has since been released.
