Career

With over a decade of experience as a professional journalist, Samuel Aruwan transitioned into public service in 2015. 

Beginning his career as an intern at New Nigerian Newspapers and Daily Independent Newspapers, he later joined Leadership Newspapers Group and eventually became a bureau chief at Blueprint Newspapers Limited. 

In 2014, he temporarily left journalism to work as a spokesperson for Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai during the 2015 general elections in Kaduna State.

Following the election, Aruwan was appointed as Special Assistant for Media and Publicity to Governor El-Rufai, eventually rising to Senior Special Assistant. 

He played a crucial role in the success of the 2019 election campaigns. As a member of the Kaduna State Security Council since 2015, he collaborates with various security agencies in the State.

In July 2019, Aruwan was sworn in as Commissioner for the Kaduna State Executive Council, where he oversees internal security functions and policies. Recognized for his crisis management skills, he received the Crisis Manager of the Year award in 2021. 

He was appointed as the 14th Administrator/Commissioner of the Kaduna Capital Territory Authority, further solidifying his role in the state government. Aruwan’s expertise on banditry attacks in Northern Nigeria has garnered attention from the media.

Dismissal and Controversy

During a cabinet reshuffle on November 30, 2024, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State relieved Samuel Aruwan of his duties as Commissioner for Internal Security. This decision was made amidst ongoing legal matters, including accusations of false asset declarations. 

Aruwan, who had been in this role since its inception in 2019, was the first to occupy the position. James Atung Kanyip has now taken over as the new Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs.
