Booi was born on April 6, 1981, in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. She attended Dominican Convent in Belgravia, Johannesburg for primary school and went on to complete her high school education at Potchefstroom High School for Girls, graduating in 1998.
During her school years, Booi participated in the choir and took part in various school plays. She obtained an associate degree in Theatre Arts from Midrand University, now known as Midrand Graduate Institute.

Career
In 1997, Vuyelwa was chosen to be part of the North West Youth Choir and embarked on a tour in Europe in July. During this tour, she performed in five countries, took part in competitions, and participated in choir festivals.
