Early Life And Career
TiC, born Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah, embarked on his music journey in 1997 as part of the group ‘Natty Strangers’ alongside close companion Bessem Bikhazi, known as Cold Sweat.
Their dynamic performances quickly made them a sought-after act in Ghana, earning accolades at renowned events like Kidafest, Fun World, and Source, among others.
Following Bessem’s departure to the UK for pilot training, TiC went on to unleash a self-produced album, inspired by his admiration for Busta Rhymes. Bessem, now a qualified pilot, currently serves as TiC’s manager.
TiC’s musical footprint expanded with his appearance on Azigiza’s track “Woye Bia,” a chart-topper in Ghana. Subsequent collaborations with Slim Busterr and Daasebre Gyamenah solidified his presence in the industry.
In 1999, TiC independently released his debut solo album, Philomena, which yielded multiple hit tracks.
TiC, previously known as Tic Tac, made waves in the music scene with his hit single “Menka Bio (Shordy)” from his third album, Masem. This song dominated the Ghana music chart for a remarkable 22 weeks during 2002–2003, setting a new record.
The launch of his fourth album, Wope, made history in Ghana with its massive scale. Wope stood out in the hiplife genre for its notable collaborations with international stars like Freddy Meiway from Côte d’Ivoire on the title track and Tony Tetuila from Nigeria on “Fefe n’efe,” which paid homage to Fela Kuti.
TiC continued to push boundaries with his fifth album, Accra Connection, teaming up with artists such as Sway DaSafo, Rhian Benson, D’Banj, and JJC.
TiC’s track “Kangaroo,” released in 2006, received a visually captivating video directed by Gil Green, which ascended to the peak of the MTV Base Africa charts.
In 2018, TiC made a significant comeback with the release of a new single titled “Kwani Kwani (Part 2),” featuring the talented Ghanaian musician Kuami Eugene. The track garnered popularity and further solidified TiC’s reputation in the industry.
Alongside his successful music career, TiC has ventured onto the international stage, sharing performances with acclaimed artists like 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Kanda Bongo Man, and Buju Banton. One of his standout tracks, the “Kwani Kwani (Remix)” featuring Kuami Eugene, has become a fan favorite.
