Funke Akindele, the Nollywood actress and filmmaker, is depending on divine blessings despite her prominent position as the Queen of the Box office.

Taking to her Instagram page, the mother of twins shared a photo of herself en route to a movie set, accompanying it with a heartfelt prayer for the success of her endeavors, expressing her hope not to toil in futility.

“Oh Lord!! Please bless my hustle!! Mi o ni se lasan lagbara Olorun!! AMEN!! Have a fabulous day guys”.

Responding to her plea, familiar names such as Destiny Etiko, Tijani Adekola, Eniola Ajao, Paschaline Alex, Uzee Usman, and others flocked to her comment section to echo their agreement with her supplication.

Funke Akindele, currently reigning as the Queen of Box office movies in Africa, achieved a remarkable feat with her latest project, “A Tribe Called Judah,” which premiered in cinemas in December 2023 and swiftly shattered a box office record within a mere 21 days of its launch, marking it as the first Nollywood production to amass N1bn.

The triumph of this movie surpassed the earnings of her previous works, “Battle on Buka Street” (N668.4m) and “Omo Ghetto” (N636.1m), which presently hold the positions of second and third highest-grossing films in the Nigerian box office, respectively.

In recognition of her groundbreaking accomplishment, the actress was awarded a new car at a special event and also received the prestigious Silverbird Lifetime Achievement Award, a gesture she attributed to her devoted fans and loved ones.

Recently, the movie star unveiled her upcoming project, “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” scheduled for a December release. However, details regarding the nature of the film, specifically its initial release in cinemas or on streaming platforms, were not disclosed.

The connection between “Everybody Loves Jenifa” and the popular comedy franchise Jenifa, which evolved into “The Return of Jenifa” and a TV series titled “Jenifa’s Diary,” is quite apparent.

Last year, Funke Akindele, alongside Mo Abudu and Ayo Makun, emerged as the top earners among movie producers in Nigeria, as per a ranking by Top Charts Africa, having collectively grossed over N1 billion from their respective film projects.
